It’s been a hectic and very successful last few years for the Maelgwyn Mineral Services group of companies. So, we decided to celebrate the occasion by combining the company’s formal AGM with a get together for the staff, directors and shareholders and their families. The events took place over the weekend of 30th November 2019 on the harbour front in Cascais, Portugal. We were hosted by MMS shareholder and director Peter Sullivan and his wife Louisa. Peter and Louisa have been resident in Portugal for many years.
We thanked our loyal shareholders who essentially have been the same since the company start up over 22 years ago. The company reflected on its success. Despite still being a relatively small company in a business sector dominated by a small number of huge multi-national corporations the company can claim to be the successful market leader in a couple of specialised areas of mineral processing.
MMS supplied its first Imhoflot pneumatic flotation cells for the upgrading of potash to Kali + Salz (K+S) back in 2000. Since then, with developments of the Imhoflot G-Cell and H-Cell we have gone from strength to strength, building strong relationships with producers and partner engineering companies. An example of this is that in 2019, in partnership with engineering company Passat, MMS upgraded another two processing plants belonging to Belaruskali in Belarus with the supply of 16 Imhoflot V-Cells. Belaruskali is one of the world’s largest potash producers having an over 20% share of the potash fertiliser export market. Since 2005 MMS has been involved in the upgrade of flotation technology in all the Belaruskali process plants. The superior performance of the Imhoflot flotation concept means that it out performs all other types of flotation systems. We hope to be announcing soon a further major contract for the supply of a further processing plant for potash recovery.
Gold Sulphide ores
The other area where the company in market leader is in the processing of sulphide gold ores. Utilising the patented Aachen Reactors and Leachox process this area has essentially been driven by Maelgwyn Mineral Services (Africa) Pty Ltd (MMSA), based in Johannesburg. Working with major engineering companies MMSA built strong links with Randgold Resources and all their operations in Africa. The first Aachen Reactors were installed at their Loulo operation in Mali in 2010. The reactors are in both a Pre-oxidation and Aachen Assisted Leach configuration. Since then Randgold designed all of their process plants around the MMS technology, including the Tongon plant in the Ivory Coast and the tier one gold mine at Kibali, DRC, where over 18 Aachen Reactors have been supplied for the Leachox process. Certainly, MMS believes that it contributed to the success of Randgold Resources and the collaboration is now continuing with the new Barrick Gold Corporation
