Maelgwyn is pleased to announce the successful commissioning of a new cleaner circuit at Collahuasi’ s Molybdenum plant. The Maelgwyn plant was selected after a comprehensive review of pneumatic flotation technologies due to the existing cleaner cells inability to handle clay minerals resulting in a low-quality concentrate. Unfortunately, the existing cells were unable to separate the high levels of pyrophyllite which report to the flotation concentrate reducing the molybdenum concentrate below the target 50% Mo.

A modular design was selected with the small footprint of the G-Cell plant facilitating both space and budget constraints. The cleaner plant itself consists of a total of 6 Imhoflot cells (3 x G1.4 cells and 3 x H14 cells). The complete plant was built in Maelgwyn’ s suppliers workshops before being containerised and shipped to site. The compact nature of the plant resulted in fewer on site civil requirements with rapid installation.

The G-Cell plant has resulted in an increase in the final concentrate Molybdenum grade due to its much better selectivity over pyrophyllite compared to other cell types.
