Maelgwyn Mineral Services Limited is headquartered in Tŷ Maelgwyn (Maelgwyn House) in the Cathays region of Cardiff, South Wales, United Kingdom. The company is named after the great 6th century Welsh king – Maelgwyn Gwynedd – who ruled a large part of ancient Britain. King Maelgwyn (Maelgwn in Old Welsh) lived in North Wales near Llandudno, in the foothills of the mountain ranges of Snowdonia. Present day Llandudno is the largest of the Welsh resort towns – fashionable since Victorian times. Up to the last century it was a major copper mining area. On the carboniferous limestone outcrops, the Great Orme and Little Orme, in between which the town of Llandudno is situated, are workings of major copper mining which date back to the mid Bronze Age, some 3800 years ago.
